Daddy's shadow.

  Everything Daddy does, Tad has to do too.   Working on their computers.

 Tad has started reading this summer.  He's always loved books.  It's fun to see him read a book to his puppy or dolly.  He remembers words well and comes pretty close to repeating it to his animals.

 Tad's overall obsession is....
Firefighters.  He plays fireman EVERYDAY!   I call it my least favorite "F" word.  EVERYTHING at our house revolves around being a fireman.  The chair is his fire truck, the pretend fire guys have to join us for dinner, he wears yellow fire boots everyday (they're not allowed out of the house!), at night he has to put his jeans over his boots so he can pull them on like a fireman..... So, being the good parents that we are, we encourage it, by taking him to the fire station.  :} They had a "call out" while we were there and now he pretends to get a call out every day.  I bet you can't guess what he wants to be for Halloween?

 Tad got a new bike with training wheels!   He still loves his strider bike, but as he practices on his big bike he seems to like it more.
 Silly kid would rather sit on the porch to be like daddy than ride his new bike.

Being daddy's shadow means he watches EVERYTHING Fred does.  I'd misplaced the charger to his little car battery, when we found it, all he wanted to do was work on it like dad.   He noticed Fred wasn't using the car ramps, so he moved them by himself under the carport.   Next thing we knew he was driving up the ramps!   (Look at Fred's face in the picture to the left- we really thought he'd stop at the bottom, but he drove right up onto them.)

Fred is really good about letting Tad use his tools and Tad has already learned to put them back when he's done playing.  Can you tell he's watched his dad work on the car more than a few times?  I love it - I hope he's as handy as his dad is one day!
 (I sat in the lovely red chair in the corner of this picture and just watched "the boys" work.)

This is what took over our lives....

I hate being prego.  No offense little one on the way.
Whoever says being pregnant is the best they've ever felt is CRAZY!  I was sick for about 4 1/2 months with the first one.  The morning sickness started with that one at 6 weeks while on a cruise - I don't plan to ever go on a cruise again.  This one started at 4 weeks.  It's been miserable!
I stopped eating dairy for 2 months to reduce the hurling.   I couldn't tolerate water or pretty much any liquid.  I lived on fruit and snowcones to feel hydrated through a very hot summer.   Finally at 17 weeks it felt like the "fever broke".  Really, pregnancy to me feels like the longest case of the flu.  I can eat dairy and drink water again but I still feel nauseous every day, even at 21 weeks.

Tad is convinced it's a baby brother.  A promise of a bunk bed is probably the motivation behind that.  :}  Fred and I have been tempted to find out what we are having, but so far we're sticking it out.   I feel so sick that I like the baby better when I don't know what it is, instead of starting to curse it before it gets here.  It's just been Tad, Fred & I for so long that it's really hard for me to picture another child in our family.  I'm sure Tad will be a great big brother and old enough to be helpful!

Fred and Tad have really been troopers.  I HATE feeling bedridden, I feel lazy not being able to do everything I used to do in one day.   It has been a lot of fun to watch Fred and Tad become best buddies.  And Tad has grown a lot in the past few months - very independent!  Now that I'm starting to feel human again, I'll try to catch up posts on what's been happening in the past few months for us.... besides me being a grumpy prego lady!

This week's entertainment

Is it just me? Or have the past couple of months just kind of passed and I'm wondering how we got to Mother's day already? It hasn't even been a very exciting year, the time seems to pass in a haze.  I wish I could say that it's a fun haze, chocolate coma, etc.  But it's not----
This past week was packed full of entertainment - so at last, I'm finally going to blog.  That, and the fact that I'm on the computer to upload pictures for family.

After Fred's finals, instead of giving him the much deserved break that he needed and planning something fun.... I scheduled 3 days of painting our house!   What a good wife I am!---He's just an amazing husband!  He let me pick the colors out and just nodded to everything I said.   We repainted Tad's room and our room - actually switching rooms.   Our room went from Purple & sage to a nice neutral tan & creamy brown.  I always swore I wouldn't go neutral, but I have to admit, I'm a fan.   Tad's room had a cute Moon song stenciled along the top from when he was a baby, and is now the same tan as our room, with 2 walls painted & textured denim blue.   We also repainted the upstairs bathroom a light blue.  One day, when I get everything put back away (and my quilt finished), I may even post pictures!    How did we paint for 3 days with the house a disaster & keep a 3 year old out of the way?  We shipped him off to Grandma & Grandpa's!   The first day he was home he asked to go back.....  I can't say I blame him, at home I was still putting stuff away, at Grandma's they took him to Antelope Island, made cookies, made bread sculptures, played outside, pretended to hunt alligators....

Thursday- I can't decide if painting and putting things away is worse or moving would be worse.   But it did give us a chance to dejunk!
Friday - Tad & I went with Grandma & Grandpa to Logan to watch Lauralee graduate with her Masters!
She looks thrilled doesn't she?  :} Super proud of her though!
 Saturday - We headed to the ranch to help with the shearing.   Fred stayed home to work on a Ward Service project - building a wheelchair ramp for someone.   He amazes me that with just a little research & a few measurements he can draw up his own plans.   While he worked hard, we played!
I taught Tad to pat his chest, but didn't tell him why.   He only did it once because he learned that calls the dogs to jump on you.   :}  I'm a good mom!
 We hiked to the cave.  Tad thought the sheep bones were cool and carried them all the way back down to show everyone.  I know, gross, but on a ranch, there are much WORSE things he could pick up.  :}
  The shearers are slower this year, so we'll have a few more days to enjoy the sunshine & fresh air.
 Saturday afternoon when we got home, I stopped to check on his ramp progress and ended up running to the store to pick up more wood for them.   He got home at 4pm and changed clothes to go to a baptism that STARTED at 4pm..... That he was speaking at, because of that awesome wife that he has.... who happens to be in the primary presidency and suckered him into speaking.   :}
As if I don't ask enough of him - I asked if we could go back up to the ranch Sunday to help out.  He agreed and we were off early Sunday morning.  It wasn't a real tough day, as you can tell from Trent's laid back method of keeping the sheep from running back.
Actually, the sheep were pretty stubborn.  One rammed the gate and broke it, later when we finally got it in the chute, it jumped the fence into the other pen.
 Tad was in HEAVEN - dirt, puppies, sheep to poke, 4-wheelers to pretend to drive & little cousins.   He fell asleep on the way home!
The picture below is one of my absolute favorites from the week.   Tad was very concerned about the puppy and was giving him a drink.   :}
Monday - we went up again to help them finish running the sheep.   I was glad it was on the ranch rather than out on the desert so that we could go back each day.  We left Tad with Grandpa - they took the missionaries to Antelope Island for their P-day.   Grandma came with Fred & I to the ranch.
It's amazing to know that each of these guys can lift quite a bit, but it takes all four of them to roll this (square) object up a ramp onto the trailer.   Each bundle of wool weighs a minimum of 450 lbs.

Tuesday - Fred spent the day hanging pictures and shelves for me!
Wednesday - we had a picnic in the pouring rain.
Now it's back to our boring weekly routines.   But I'll hopefully have more to blog about throughout the summer..... family vacation, Tad's new pedal bike, scout camp for me!, more ranch work, learning to read, maybe some swimming lessons...... hopefully the summer passes in a Tanning haze!

After Tad calmed down, My bro-in-law offered to take him on his back.   He'd been sledding head first all day - he was fearless!  Tad did seemed to like it a lot better.

The bottom of the hill ends in the road, with a pretty good drop.   The only way to stop was to roll off before you got there, or have someone catch you.   Tad thought the bottom 20 feet was enough fun.

(The picture on the top right is misleading - the kid really did get out of the way.  But who seriously walks up the middle of the sledding hill?)
The top left picture was our only real accident.   We'd done well at avoiding the pine tree at the bottom of the hill - until I suggested my nephews hold onto each other as they came down.   Douglas tried to help Brandon avoid it, but he hit his head.  Ouch!   Luckily, it was just a goose egg.
Notice the ambulance in the back ground of the bottom left picture?   Across the sidewalk, someone was sledding in the more wooded area and really did hit a tree bad enough to be taken off by a stretcher.
The bottom right picture was Douglas "trying" to stop Brandon at the bottom of the drop off.  :}
